Massachusetts is the second largest life science cluster in the US with a total of 480 biotech and medical companies, nearly 47,000 total employees and 122 colleges and universities. The Boston – Cambridge region is, by far, the biggest hub for life science companies in the entire state. That region alone plays home 240 biotech companies, 5 of the top NIH-funded hospitals in the US, and approximately 40% of the state’s top academic facilities, universities and research institutions.
